But, Mommy Government – I Like The Loud Commericals. They Give Daddy A Job.
If government regulations about healthcare and CO2 emissions make you anxious, you might turn to the tube to relax. Forget it. Democrats now want to control advertising on your TV. Under the guise of controlling “loud” TV commercials, Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) are taking government control to a new low. The brilliantly titled, “Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation” or CALM laws will regulate the volume of commercials blaring from your TV.
How stupid is this? Don’t they know that Americans take their TV seriously! Americans also like their TV commercials and love the freedom of using their remotes to turn the volume up or down. Also, not all commercials are loud. There are plenty of times commercials are actually lower in volume than regular programming. Should this not be a function of the TV makers? Can’t they make TVs that normalize volume if we choose? I want to know how many retired folks use the commercials to track time, waking to take medicine and such when their show is over.
This is really an assault on capitalism. Democrats are looking for all ways to limit the ability of businesses to advertise their products – loud or not. The cost of mandating additional technology being placed into TVs will increase cost and kill jobs. I wonder if these statists will keep my volume from going to mute when I turn on CSPAN at night to fall asleep?
